Detailed Itinerary
Pickup from Kampala/Entebbe
Very early in the morning after your delicious breakfast at the hotel, you will meet your Hige safaris experienced guide and depart in a private 4×4 with AC and WiFi using Nakiwogo landing site route. This route is recommended because you will have chance to spot over 300 bird species including the shoe bill, Papyrus Gonolek and the blue swallow.
Arrival at Mabamba Swamp
You will meet with a local guide for a comprehensive briefing, during which you will receive an overview of the entire expedition, essential safety protocols to adhere to, and brief details regarding expectations. Following this, you will embark on motorized canoes, with life jackets provided for your safety.
Begin your 2–3 hour birding adventure through narrow channels.
Shoe bill Stork Quest
Search for the elusive Shoe Bill in its natural habitat (80% sighting success rate!). You will be using a wooden boat to sail on the swamp in search for the rare shoe bill that feeds on the fish, you will be able to spot other bird species which include blue breasted king fisher, pied king fisher, the African pygmy’s goose and many more.
Enjoy a Picnic Lunch Break.
Enjoy a packed picnic lunch by the swamp or dine at a lakeside lodge of choice as recommended by the local guide.
